Taking the plunge!
Taking the plunge!
Well, here I am!
I’m here! Only a few years ago I was reasonably happy and contented but in a kind of ’get up, go to work, come home, watch telly, go to bed’ type of way - with a vague feeling at the back of my mind, (like an itch that you can’t quite scratch,) that there’s had to be more to it all. Well, there is! Sometimes (though more and more rarely) I ask myself how I could have possibly left a good, well paid job as head of French in a large secondary school in Leeds, a comfortable home, good friends, great neighbours, David Lloyd gym, Marks and Spencers ready prepared meals, Ruchee’s - the best curry house in Yorkshire.....! Then I take a look out of my window at the snow capped Canigou mountain rising majestically in the distance, at the air purity, clarity and space, at my son racing around the streets of our local town, unafraid, at my husband with a permanent smile and twinkle in his eye, and I know exactly why I’m here.
It takes guts to give up your security. If you’re very wealthy with endless funds behind you, I suppose it must be easier but even so it involves uprooting your whole life. I think this is why a lot of people stay in one place and dream.
I know it’s a cliché but I’m living the dream. Whatever happens, I’ve done the right thing even if it doesn’t work out. I know I will never say "If only I had...."
Over the next few months, I will try to give you an idea of life in the Pyrénées-Orientales with photos and a weekly diary so that if you are thinking of moving, or coming over here for a holiday, you’ll have more of an idea what to expect.
