Amélie-les-Bains

The yearly Festival Folklorique International in Amélie-les-Bains is actually the oldest festival in the Pyrénées Orientales, having been created in 1935 by Jean TRESCASES, founder of the ’Danseurs Catalans d’Amélie’

Originally a national festival, it quickly attracted international attention, first from other Mediterranean countries, and then from Eastern Europe, at a time when the Cold War and governmental controls made trips out of these countries a virtual impossibility. It didn’t stop them!

Now in its 71st year, the 2013 festival will be represented by dancers from Columbia, Greece, Spain, Malasia, North Ossetia, and of course France, 300 dancers who will light up Amélie with a a kaleidoscope of colour and rhythm, as we take a journey through the dance culture and traditions of other nations.

WEDNESDAY 7th at 7:30 p.m.

Apéro Musical followed at 8.30pm by a “Grande Soirée Exotique” and dinner dance. 

 THURSDAY 8TH

11:00: music in the streets
17:00: Concert of choirs with "Orfeo" of St Laurent de Cerdans, "Sang et Or" from Arles sur Tech, "North Artois Picardie"from Amélie les Bains and the choir from Baho
Entrance: 5 €
20h30: dinner show iwith the folk group "ciamada nissarda" from Nice - Place de la Sardana
Menu: Melon with ham, beef à la niçoise, cheese, dessert, wine
Price: 12 € / pers.

22:00: Bal hosted by Christian FONTAINE

“La Magie des Cultures” - folklorique music from around the world

 SUNDAY 11th

Closing Gala with all the groups performing an extravaganza of music and dance from all continents
