July 2008 - Ballet Bejart

Ballet Bejart

Anyone with the very slightest interest in dance in general and ballet in particular should have been at the Campo Santo in Perpignan on the 20th and 21st July.

The Bejart Ballet gave two fabulous performances to an audience who was held enthralled by this stunning mix of traditional, modern and some quite frankly quirky dancing. The music slid seamlessly from Mozart to Queen, from Maria Callas to Berlioz, through a series of classic French chansons and into street music.
L’Amour La Danse is a homage to Maurice Bejart, one of the greatest choreographers of the 20th century. Excerpts from a number of his major ballets, chosen by him in his lifetime, provide an exceptional insight into the genius of Maurice Bejart. The fluid beauty of the performance is spellbinding. Occasional flashes of distant lightening complimented the lighting of Clement Cayrol, Henri Davila’s costumes emphasised the brilliance of the entire company. The stand up applause at the end competed with the threatening thunder in the sky in this superb outdoor venue.
