Phoebus, a cat’s protection society, was created in November 1995 in St Cyprien, to protect stray cats, particularly those abandoned during the Summer season when the tourists depart. Its role is to sterilise and subsequently find homes for the many abandoned cats and kittens in the area. Alternatively, cats are treated and placed in the ’wild’ where they are able to fend for themselves, contributing to the control of rats, mice etc. Phoebus receives a small subsidy from the local council but vet fees and food mean that the society is in constant need of donations. If you are able to give a cat a home, or would like to join the society for 15 €, contact:
