Champion, Carrefour, Intermarché....?

 

Have you been wondering why your local supermarket keeps changing its name? Over the past few months, six hypermarkets and supermarkets in the Pyrenees Orientales have been taken over by the Mousquetaires group, Intermarché.

Champion changed to Carrefour, then some Carrefour (those in Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque, Saint-Esteve, Elne Llupia, Thuir and Argelès) changed to Intermarché.

In fact, this has happened because ’les Mousquetaires’ have bought out ’Altis’ of which 50% was owned by Carrefour, who were having cash flow problems. Intermarché now has 23 supermarkets in the P-O. 

An application for a second Intermarché in Céret has been turned down.
