FETE NATIONALE CELEBRATIONS

 

La Fête de la Bastille or Fête Nationale marks the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789 and the beginning of the French Revolution of 1789.

The Bastille was seen as a symbol of the absolute power of Louis the 16th’s Regime and its storming and defeat represented a symbol of liberty in the fight against perceived oppression of French citizens by the Monarchy.

Bastille Day was declared a French national holiday in 1880, a celebration of the birth of the Republic.

Fireworks, dancing, and a lot of celebrating mark the event every year throughout France. Below is a selection of typical yearly events from past years (unless specifically stated 2013) but you are advised to check with Tourist Offices for exact dates and details as many take place on the night of the 13th.

Ouverture du marché nocturne. 18 h 30 : Ouverture des bodegas sur le quai Forgas. 19 h : Sardinade du club de basket-ball sur la place Castellane. 19 h à 20 h : Intervention de la Kanyougou (fanfare africaine) et de la fanfare locale Aioli Beach. 21 h : Déambulation des fées et des cracheurs de feu de la compagnie Chloé ; spectacle aux notes africaines de Kanyougou. 22 h 30 : Feu d’artifice sur le port, puis bal sur la place Castellane avec l’orchestre “ Hors Série ”.
