Meet Xavier
Those of you who live or have holiday homes in the Pyrénées-Orientales will have found out by now that looking after your garden over here requires a completely different approach from our traditional english gardens. Some trees or plants need watering twice a day in Summer if they are to flourish, others can cope for long periods of time without water. Some fruit trees need little care, others are more demanding and require constant attention.
Xavier Girette is a landscape and maintenance gardener in the vallespir. Born in Perpignan, he has lived in the Pyrénées-Orientales all his life. His early passion for nature led him to start work, at the age of 18, in a large garden centre in Céret. Here, he learnt all the basics of garden maintenance.
At the end of his contract in Céret, he left for England where he worked in a large garden centre in Chersey, South London, in the landscape and design sevice, rapidly picking up the language. On his return to France a year later, he spent a further year in education, training to be a landscape gardener, and gained qualifications in his field. He continued to work with several landscape gardening firms over the next few years until he felt that he had the experience and know-how to open his own gardening business.
Xavier has now set up Vallespir Paysage, a landscaping and garden maintenance firm, and can be contacted on 06 12 99 25 52
He would also be happy to answer your gardening questions, either by email, phone: 06 12 99 25 52 or via the anglophone-direct forum
