Catherine Dagois and Edgard Teufel: together intensely
“To hear the level of expression and charm you give to my musique fills me with admiration.”
Xavier Montsalvatge (letter to Catherine Dagois and Edgar Teufel)
CATHERINE
Born into a family of artists, from a very early age she demonstrates her very rare dramatic contralto voice, a voice that would make her the ideal soloist for modern and contemporary post-romantic works.
After winning the Gold Medal at the national “Concours Musical de France”, and entering the finals of the “Concours des Voix d’Or” at the age of 21, she earns a musicology degree at the Conservatory of Toulouse University, followed by the prestigious Professor of Singing title at the Stuttgart Conservatory. These early successes lead to a beautiful concert and opera signing career: after being discovered by renowned French musicologist, producer at “France Musique,” and director of the Aix-en-Provence Festival Jacques Bourgeois, who calls her a “France’s unique, true contralto”, she lines up concert after concert:From the closing night at the Warsaw Autumn Festival, accompanied by the excellent Philharmonic of Polish Radio abd Television, to the Opéra Bastille in Paris or de Flanders Opera in Antwerp, her voice, hailed as “sumptuous” by critics, wins over audiences worldwide. She appears with the greates conductors, including Edgar Howarth, Frédéric Chaslin, Kwame Ryan, Johannes Kalitzke, to name but a few...
"She’s a voice you’ll never forget” Gazeta Wyborcza (Warsaw)
EDGAR
As an exceptionally young talent, he first discovers France as the youngest candidate in the International Encounters of the Jeunesses Musicales, conducted by the greates French and German masters.During his brilliant studies at the Conservatory and University of Stuttgart, he earns degrees as organist, pianist, musicologist, conductor, as well as music and literature professor. He becomes a professional orchestra musician, participating in international tours, and numerous radio and television recordings. In 1985, Edgar founds a youth orchestra in Sigmaringen, which he’s been conducting since its inception.
Edgar Teufel’s unique musicality, which is both large and nuanced, is unanimously appreciated by critics.
"From the very first bar, one could admire the accompanist’s exceptional talents.” FAZ (Frankfurt)
CATHERINE AND EDGAR
Their encounter changed their lives forever, as they quickly decided to unite their talents and passion for music. This duo in life as well as on stage, has so far:
- performed on numerous tours - singing with piano and/or organ - in over 24 countries, and on four continents, in the most prestigious cities, music halls and cathedrals in Europa, Asia, the Americas and beyond...
- done a dozen recordings of singing/piano and singing/organ with labels such as Audite, Bayer Records, Troubleyn, Dux, SWR, Ars Produktion and more...
- taught Masterclasses in singing, organ and piano in the most prestigious professional establishments (Conservatory of Ostrava, Bucarest, Timisoara, Wroclaw, Tananarive, Canton, Wuhan, Novossibirsk...).
Their most intense bliss is to play concerts and recording music that they profoundly love in places filled with soul and history.Meeting Joanna Bruzdowicz and her marvellous, luminous and captivating music was thus an utter revelation for Catherine and Edgar. But nothing prepared them for the joy when the great composer brought them on board this magnificent project: to record an album entirely arranged and composed for them in the magical priory of Serrabona and the beautiful church of Saint-Laurent de la Salanque.
