….In 2006 he moved to Switzerland, where he established a studio, his creativity was finally fully liberated, and paintings poured from him.
First of all they were landscapes in strong colours. Since then, from an intense personal reaction to certain scenes, he has found his way to a vibrant abstraction, in which spots, contours, ribbon-like shapes fly, cross, interact, rise and descend like exuberant waves…All is movement and power, an astonishing harmony of brilliance and colour. His painting exude their own restless energy and, yes, magic.

…What struck me most was a use of primary colours that achieved a particular brilliance that had an immediate almost physical effect on the eye.
There was a freshness in the use of colours and colour combinations that gave an unusual impression of vibrant energy….
The essence of his talent lies in this intuitive, exuberant use of colour and shape, which calls forth a sense of harmony. Looking at his paintings makes you happy!!

La peinture de Martin Hamel est une peinture qui s’offre au sens et à l’esprit :
Lumineuse, généreuse, dictée par les impulsions de l’intuition et de l’inconscient.
Traversée de réminiscences, son œuvre est un dialogue ouvert, une convergence de voies :
De Miro à de Kooning, ou Bram van Velde, et Sam Francis.
Il s’appuie et se concentre sur le geste pictural, les couleurs vives. Du tracé contenu ou amplifié aux surfaces colorées où la lumière tient une place majeure, il peint. C’est une nécessité absolue.
Sa production incessante, son exploration du moyen d’expression qu’est pour lui la peinture, traduit un tel plaisir vital, une telle jubilation corporelle dans la réalisation, une telle énergie que l’on est d’emblée atteint.
