Sunday 28th June from 3 pm to 7pm. Gem Melville “Open day” - Meet the artists The extremely talented Gem Melville was born 1949, in Vryheid, South Africa where she lived and worked until 2001. She has focused on textiles since 1992, working in collaboration with Zulu Women in community projects in KwaZulu Natal. SA, which profoundly influenced her work, along with South African culture. She descibes herself as ’an artist with an essentially western perspective’. On Sunday 28th June, she would like to invite you to her “Atelier”, situated in a fragrant wild garden bordered by the Reynés river. To get there, head for Reynés, and take the first turn off to the left after the "rond point" at "Lidl, a small winding road (Route de las Quintanes) en route to “Can Art”, before the Reynés bridge, and just after the Restaurant “Can Fouste” (coming from Céret towards Amelie les Bains). Chez Gem is the second house on the right….no numbers along this chemin. Her guest artists at this open day are Helle Frosrerod (Norwegian Graphic Designer) who will show her sculptures and drawings; and Chantal de Lanoye Bourdeau. (Flemish painter from Brussels). Gem herself will exhibit hand painted textiles, paintings, and drawings. Waffles and homemade “Sambuca Vital” elderberry cordial will be on sale and wine and a fruit punch will be available on the house. Gem also runs hand painted textile workshops for groups or individuals. These vary from one- day workshops, week end workshops,and regular weekly sessions. Mosaic, drawing, painting and surface decoration are offered as “group projects”, where individuals needing direction, or who have lost confidence in their creativity, can work collaboratively.
