From Friday 26 June to Sunday 28 June Collioure’s second International Piano Contest will fill the little courtyard of the Chateau Royal with music and excitement.
Each evening at 21h30 there will be a concert played by three candidates. Two pieces set by the jury - a sonata by Mozart and “Italienne” by Bruno Mantovani (2001) - will be part of each pianist’s 35-minute programme. Many have chosen works by Isaac Albeniz to mark the 100th anniversary of Catalan composer’s death.
Participants come from France, Romania, South Korea and Spain. The candidates ( aged between 20 and 24) have been selected by a jury of professional musicians. At the end of each evening, the audience is invited to vote for their preferred pianist. On the third night, the jury will choose the the overall winner, who will receive the Grand Prix Alain Marinaro. Tickets are 10 euros for each concert.
During the same three days, a festival of piano music will invade the streets as well as the Centre Culturel and the church of Collioure with a concert for children, jazz in the Place 18 Juin and a piano recital in Notre Dame des Anges.
