Take time if you’re travelling to check out your route on Bison Futé real time traffic conditions next week, when truckers may well be barricading the motorways or setting up an “opération escargot” go-slow from 9pm on Sunday 12th.
The strike will go ahead if the government continue with plans to implement a new road tax, “péage de transit poids-lourds”, designed to raise funds to maintain roads and divert lorries from urban areas.
A similar protest last year bought much of the motorway network to a standstill when truck drivers won their fight against the proposed écotaxe on heavy-goods vehicles.
More protests are likely to take place later in October if the tax is not abandoned.
