Rickshaws in Perpignan

Well, not quite rickshaws but as you can see from the photos, Citycab66 have introduced bike taxis into Perpignan centre, providing an easy, open air and fun way to get around the city.

Citycab66 told me...

"Perpignan transport network has just welcomed three polyethylene bike-taxis, operating on the model of the Asian rickshaw, but with a huge novelty, the tricycles are partly propelled by electricity. Our young company CityCab 66, created in December 2009 by 2 native Catalans (Emilie and Paul), is delegating three eco-drivers, all auto-entrepreneurs, primarily available in the Arago square, in front of the Tourism Office. Inspired by pre-existing devices in Barcelona, Paris and Berlin, this new activity in Catalan country aims not only at the inhabitants of the territory but also tourists. At a speed of 20 km/h, it is expected to attract many people of all ages.
The cost is 1 euro per kilometer, plus one euro boarding fee and three euros bike reservation.

Also available are organised and private tourist rides at 10 euros for 30 minutes and 18 euros for 1 hour, for two passengers.
Authorized by the city of Perpignan to take the pedestrian streets of the city, our bike service will offer you a new style of Perpignan discovery. People can go now where cars are forbidden and take advantage of the most beautiful narrow streets and shaded parks of the city."
