From May to June «du Rififi chez Ovalie» (an unusual rugby series of paintings)
Atelier Zeillim - Mas d’Avall - Elne
Every day from 3.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m. except on Tuesdays.
L’Atelier Zeillim opens its doors to the public in May with an unusual rugby series of paintings ..
Zeillim’s studio will open its doors to the public in May 2009. In the middle of the historical vineyard « Le Mas d’Avall », next to the Maternité Suisse d’Elne, the sparkling world of a painter, coming from the North, will be on show.
The « Baz’art » corner where cut-out paintings will be sold (0,10Euros/cm2), the exhibition room on the first floor modified according to the seasonal production of the artist and at last, the « Womb’s cave » at the top of an old private mansion (XVIIIth century) filled with arts and thoughts written on its walls …
It makes an original Sunday walk with family or friends, just near Elne.
It’s just by chance that the painter Zeillim (anagram of Gérard Milliez, his birth name) decided to live in the very south of France, in Elne, next to «le centre du monde» as Dali called Perpignan.
After several exhibitions in big European cities, he decided to settle down in an old catalan house (le Mas d’Avall) in 1997. It took him more than 10 years to decide to open the doors of his studio, an abounding creative world.
Only one reference to sum up the man and his ambitions : Lascaux. In fact, as Zeillim defines himself, he is like a cave painter lost in the times. With references like Picasso, Chagall or Miro, Zeillim cultivates opposition just like a Zen Master as well as a typically French intellectual ambiguity. Simplicity and power, rough emotion and structure (the artiste was an architect), a mischievious humour and harsh mockery, in reference to the Italian Renaissance painters. He loves all sort of borders and crossbreedings between figurative and abstract. He is interested in music, photography, design, culinary art, all what is part of the art of life.
In May 2009 an exhibition of 11 paintings created between January and May 2007, will take place in the exhibition room on the first floor. A rugbistic theme called «du Rififi chez Ovalie» (free-for-all in the rugger ball world). Rugby, a world in itself, a paradoxical atmosphere made of slowness and quickness, friendship and hostility, unwieldiness and agility ; the world of strategy and confusion.
A theme that fits the artist excessiveness, for a very nice beginning.
